Acupuncture uses thin needles, mild pressure, and other techniques to stimulate specific points on a body to enhance our innate healing processes. Treatments help a variety of ailments by restoring the body to a more balanced homeostasis utilizing a holistic assessment and treatment approach. Conditions often treated through acupuncture include physical, mental, and emotional dysfunction, digestive issues and hormone/endocrine imbalances, infertility, allergies, migraines, insomnia, and chronic fatigue symptoms, just to name a few.
Biodynamic Cranial Therapy is a subtle, yet potent system of healing that works on all layers; physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Our bodies store trauma when they are not ready to be processed. We listen to your body with loving presence and find areas where the source of health is working to bring your body back into alignment. The practitioner keeps her attention steady and free of judgement. This provides a catalyst for your pattern of imbalance to be seen, supported, and released so that you may embody greater health. This bodywork is effective at all stages of development, from infancy through end of life. You may choose to have Cranial Therapy, also known as Craniosacral or Cranial Sacral, as its own session in comfortable clothes on a table or incorporate it into a Biodynamic Massage session.
Biodynamic Massage is conscious touch using both subtle and deep pressure to release physical tension and open up energy pathways in your body. When we have physical or emotional trauma, the body creates tension and holding patterns. We listen to your body’s signals to guide us in how much pressure to use and how to physically support you. During each session we focus on one primary area of concern to give the body time to unwind the pattern so that the health created may permeate your whole being.
A gentle and profound therapeutic modality that works with the bones in the skull, spine, fascia, and other connective tissues. The practitioner follows your body to guide the amount of pressure. This modality optimizes cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord, aligns bones to their proper position, and eases nerve passages. It is helpful for mental and emotional stress, migraines, TMJ syndrome, and chronic pain.
Cupping and Gua Sha are techniques that come from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. As a massage therapist I am using these techniques with a different intention, as I am not applying them with meridians and acupoints in mind. From a soft tissue perspective these techniques are great for releasing fascia and breaking up scar tissue. Both techniques increase blood flow and flush out toxins stored in chronically tight tissue. A cupping treatment involves creating a vacuum effect during the application of cups to the skin. This creates a suction as the tissue is pulled up into the cup. The cups can be left in one place for an extended period of time or they can be moved around on lubricated skin. Cupping treatments can be used as part of a massage session or as a stand-alone treatment. Gua Sha is also called "scraping," which is essentially just that- a smooth flat tool is used to scrape the lubricated skin to break up scar tissue. Both techniques cause discoloration of the skin which looks similar to a hickey mark and usually last 3-7 days.
Deep Tissue Massage is not just a massage with deeper pressure. It is a type of therapeutic bodywork that addresses the deeper tissues in the body and targets specific problem areas. This could be an injury or a chronic postural pattern that is causing pain and discomfort, or reducing free movement. Focused attention is given to "knots" and "trigger points", that may also be referring pain elsewhere. Breathing cues, active movement, and passive stretches are used to facilitate the release of muscles and connective tissue. The result of this type of bodywork is reduced pain and increased range of motion. WIth regular treatment postural deviations can begin to resolve and the client will feel more comfortable in their daily movements.
Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage has been passed down through healers (kahuna) since ancient times. Mana (life-force) lomi works with the body, mind, and soul of an individual. We look to find the root cause of your concern, whether physical or emotional. We work with all layers of the body, communicating to the layer of the bone, while using an amount of pressure that the client is able to receive. With loving awareness, the practitioner uses flowing forearm strokes light-to-deep, stretching, sustained compression, and moves energy throughout the body. It assists in letting go of limiting beliefs, releasing physical tension, and relaxing your entire being.
Each session is customizable based on your intentions and goals. These sessions help to increase circulation, reduce physical tension, and restore your entire being. You may choose a rehabilitative or relaxation approach. Your therapist will integrate the modalities that they specialize in. Read the provider pages to learn more.
Myofascial release addresses a system of the body known as fascia, a type of connective tissue. This tissue wraps around all of your muscle cells, muscle fibers, nerves, and bones, holding it all together and providing structural support. Long time postural patterns and repetative motions can cause restrictions in the fascia that are not released with regular massage. No oil is used with myofascial release. Longer, sustained pressure is used because the fascia is slower to react than muscle tissue. Range of motion and pain levels can be greatly imroved when the muscle and fascia have both been released.
Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques
NAET is a protocol to reduce allergic reactions by re-educating your cells to change their perceptions of the external and internal stimulation, so that your body will have less stressors. The method has been known to treat wide varieties of allergies and allergic symptoms caused by various factors beyond food and environmental pollutants. Neural Manipulation is a light-touch, hands-on treatment that works directly with the central and peripheral nervous systems. Due to the interconnected wiring of our nerves throughout the body, and their relationship with the spinal cord and brain, by addressing local nerve restrictions, more comprehensive (global) dysfunctional patterns begin to resolve. Neural Manipulation can enhance proper functioning of the nervous system, improving balance, motor-control, strength, and agility, in addition to treating spinal and head traumas, and dysfunctions.
We use medium-light flowing pressure to reduce swelling and increase circulation of blood, most importantly to your heart, uterus, and placenta in the later stages of pregnancy. This massage promotes the flow of lymph, which assists in removal of toxins and increased immunity. We combine this with deeper pressure to alleviate muscular pain in back and hips, cramping, and stress on joints. We nourish your nervous system to help you sleep more deeply and prepare your body for delivery.
Your instructor will create each session based on your abilities, limitations, and goals. Japanese Pediatric Acupuncture
In Shonishin treatments, no needle insertions are involved, but precious metal tools are used to very lightly massage on the skin surface. The treatment usually takes anywhere between 3 to 15 minutes depending on the age of the child and the condition. Shonishin is effective for digestive, respiratory, temperamental issues, as well as boosting the immune system and enhancing the healthy physical, mental, emotional development.
Structural Bodywork is a systematic approach for assessing and addressing fascial restrictions within the body akin to Rolfing, or Structural Integration. By focusing on the fascia surrounding muscles, bone, blood vessels, nerves and organs, and their effects on the functional balance of the movement and structure of the body, clients can regain strength, mobility, and utility for a more pain free every-day existence.
Swedish Massage is also referred to as relaxation massage. It involves flowing strokes, compression and rythmic kneading of the muscle tissue. It is great for increasing circulation and jump-starting the immune system, making it an effective detoxifying treatment. Swedish massage also allows you to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, (the relaxation response), which is crucial for the health and function of every cell in the body.
Vascular Manipulation is a light-touch, hands-on treatment that works directly with the blood vessels and other nutrient portal systems of our body. Because of the innervation and importance of the vascular systems in keeping our body alive, movement and strength is often compromised in order to protect these important structures caught in restriction. Additionally, identifying and resolving vascular/portal restrictions can often have profound effects on restoring brain, organ, hormonal, and digestive function, as reduced blood flow can cause these life systems to operate at a lower capacity.
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that assess the structural relationships between the viscera (organs), and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the various systems in the body—musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous (including the autonomic nervous system), urogenital, respiratory, digestive, and lymphatic dysfunction. Restrictions within the viscera often lead to a reduction in mobility, strength and vitality, and are often a source for chronic, lingering symptoms and pain.
